History of Grama Panchayat

Located in Kottayam's Pallam Block, Panachikkad Grama Panchayat is an agricultural village bordered by the Kodoorar River, which derived its name from its once-abundant Panichi tree groves and began official governance in 1949 under K.V. Abraham Kottukulam. Shaped by historic labor movements like the Katta Samaram, the panchayat now hosts eight cultural libraries and two major landmarks: the 750-year-old Panachikkad Saraswathi Temple (Dakshina Mookambika) and the Kollad Pallikkunnel Church, where Kerala's first Malayalam Mass was held in 1836. Today, its inclusive festivals and feasts stand as a vibrant testament to the region's rich cultural heritage and deep religious harmony.
