Pre Monsoon Cleaning
Pre-monsoon cleaning is one of the most important activities undertaken to prevent the spread of communicable diseases and ensure public health before the onset of the rainy season. With the objective of “prevention before occurrence,” preparations for these activities should begin as early as May.
To prevent mosquito-borne diseases such as dengue fever and chikungunya, stagnant water collected in coconut shells, plastic cups, discarded tyres, refrigerator drip trays, and similar containers around homes should be drained regularly. Observing a weekly “Dry Day” is essential to eliminate mosquito breeding sites.
In addition, to prevent the spread of water-borne diseases such as typhoid, cholera, and leptospirosis (rat fever), drinking water sources and wells should be properly chlorinated using bleaching powder. Water should also be thoroughly boiled before being used for drinking purposes.
